A recent Reuters report has shed light on Tesla’s company culture of sharing private videos and images captured by Tesla cameras among employees.
According to nine anonymous former employees, the footage was widely shared through Tesla’s messaging platform from 2019 to 2022, including visuals of people’s garages and even footage of a speeding Tesla hitting a child on a bike.
The sharing of footage and memes made from footage was a way to earn “cool points” in the San Mateo office. However, Tesla’s privacy policy states that its autopilot-equipped cars were designed to protect user privacy, and that “no one but you would have knowledge of your activities, location or a history of where you’ve been.”
